DEE THORNELL, DVM

“Dr. Dee” Thornell is the owner of both Animal House Veterinary Clinic and Noah’s Ark.  She is a cum laude graduate of Michigan State University and has a special interest in Equine dentistry.  This energetic Veterinarian came to Fairbanks with her boyfriend in 1982 to deliver a horse.  The boyfriend left, but Dr. Dee and the horse didn’t!  She’s been in Fairbanks ever since.  Her first clinic was a mobile one, operating out of the back of a pick-up truck and doing business locally, as well as in Healy, Central, and Delta Junction.  In 1985, she parked her truck and rented part of the Kobuk Fuel & Feed Company on Peger Road, then in 1996, renovated and moved into her current location in the old Airport Equipment Building.  The 11,000 square foot facility now houses not only both Animal House and Noah’s Ark, but also serves as home to Dr. Dee and her son, Jesse. Her career highlights over the years include everything from treating her first elephant to having a dog named after her.  She treats every form of pet from small animals – to horses - to exotics.  A 1996 Miss Alaska body-building champion, Dr. Dee also enjoys writing screenplays in her spare time.  She shares her home with 2 cats, 2 dogs, 1 mule, miniature donkeys, 2 horses, numerous fish, and a 14-year old son, Jesse, named for the famed outlaw “Jesse James” because he “steals her train of thought”!
