There are so many fantastic things about my job………There is a dog that is waking up slowly from surgery, “Put him in Nicole’s Office!” A sign is hanging on my office door; Loose Bird.  I am sitting at my computer working away with a “friend.” Animals that are boarding sometimes need extra love or a quite place to adjust or stretch their legs. After a tough day I go home to my  9 year-old Rottweiler mix Grizz,  from the pound. A 3 year-old Doberman Pinscher, Duchess, was on her way to the pound when I stepped in to adopt her! Elmer J. Fudd is a domestic short hair cat that was a stray eating rabbits here at Animal House.  Dr. Dee caught him, made sure he was healthy and nobody claimed him.  Elmer claimed my heart and came home with me!

Apprentice Technicians

Cathy Ramos

CathyRamos  I have been with the Animal House Veterinary Hospital since December of 2003.  I was Dr Dee’s lead receptionist for three years before becoming one of her technicians.  I am currently working on my veterinary technician associates degree.  My greatest joy is seeing all our puppy and kittens growing and developing their own personalities.   My family consists of a husband, two young adults, a German shepherd, two Great Danes, a black cat, and fish.

Veterinary Technicians

Nicole Stresing

nicole_stresingWorking in offices behind a desk for 6 years, I became very bored and didn't feel like I was living up to my potential.  After a few months of hard thinking and soul searching, I decided to go to school to get my Veterinary Technician degree.  I love animals, and what better way to show that love by helping to make their lives healthier and happier?

I started school while I was living in Oklahoma City with my husband.  Halfway through the program, we moved to Sacramento where I graduated in 2008.  About a year and half later, we moved here, to Fairbanks.  I was fortunate enough to get hired on at Animal House and have loved it since day one!

One of the best things about my job is really feeling like I helped to make a difference in the lives of other peoples pets.  Of course, getting to play with and love on all the animals is a great perk!  Also, getting to watch the puppies and kittens grow up and watch as their personalities evolve is amazing.  I can't imagine doing anything else with my life.

At home I have a very energetic yorkie named Courage, a set-in-her-ways basenji named Maggie, and a very loving husband named Chris.  Between the three of them, there's hardly a dull moment in the house...and I wouldn't want it any other way!

After volunteering at an animal shelter for almost two years, I realized that working with animals was not only something that I loved, but also something that I could do to have a positive impact on the lives of others.  The best part of my job is that even after 10 years, I still learn something new every day, not to mention all the puppy kisses!  Seeing the looks of gratitude on our clients’ faces when we help their pets heal always give me “warm fuzzies”.  I have three cats and two dogs.

As a receptionist I get to meet and greet every client and their pets each day. I have a passion working with animals and their owners.  I have worked at the Animal House for a little over 3 years and enjoy coming to work every day. I began working in the boarding facility and moved upfront into the hospital.  I have two bloodhound/lab mixes, a pit bull, and an old grumpy cat that are all rescues.  I would take in every homeless animal if space allowed me to.  The best thing about working here is seeing the success stories that we have walk in and out everyday.  Getting to know our clients at the clinic and then being able to say hello to them in the grocery store is an awesome feeling.

For me, living without animals is like an unsharpened pencil . . . there’s no point.  It’s always a great feeling knowing that clients appreciate the time, commitment and love we put into making their pets comfortable during each visit.  Working at the Animal House has not only been enjoyable, but something I look forward to as well. Everyday is an opportunity to learn and expand my knowledge of animal care. I currently have a Pit Bull named Rock that I rescued from the Animal House. He is an amazing companion that will always be with me!

Daycare Supervisor & Licensed Trainer

Jen Hinman

jenn I got into the animal profession because there was an option to do so.   I’m now certified as a trainer and I supervise a doggie daycare.  I never thought that there would be a job like this for me.  I am so happy that I was given this option.  What better reason  is there than to get into a job that you're going to look forward to everyday?

The best part of my job is feeling like I have helped someone with something, whether it's from someone that had questions in a puppy class or being able to help one of my daycare dog parents.  I also like it when parents are happy that their dog will come up and bark when they see me. I also enjoy my puppy graduations when I see just how much time and work people have put into training their puppies to listen, then see how proud they are to show off just how well their puppy can listen. I guess for me the best part of my job is everything, except poop.  Nobody likes poop.

I have a feisty kitty named Mama, an adopted chinchilla named Snacks, a rosey tarantula named Elvis, a Pit Bull named Spaghetti, and a Pomeranian named Rick James.

It has always been a dream of mine to work in the animal profession. I have been an animal lover all of my life, and I have always wanted to be able to work with animals. When I realized it was possible I jumped at the chance. I think the best part of my job is that I get to come to work and play!

I love it when owners drop off their dog and the dog gets excited to see me, and runs over to get lovins. I also love when the dogs decide to get super cuddly with me and just sit there or lay in my lap, letting me pet them as much as I want …I don’t think I could choose one favorite moment at work.

As long as I can remember I have always had at least one pet at a time, and it was usually a dog. Unfortunately, from July 2008 till April 2009 I didn’t have any pets, not even a fish. It just didn’t feel normal for me. Finally in April 2009 I rescued a goldfish from being flushed, because its original owners were moving, and didn’t want to take him with. So I took him home , cleaned him up and named him Blue. Again, in November, I adopted two kittens. I had only planned on getting one, but my mom decided these wanted one too. So we ended up with two, Boots and Jade. The newest addition to the family is my Pug named Spike.

Groomer

LeahDanilowicz

I have been a groomer at Noah’s Ark since May, 2008 and received my Pet Grooming  Diploma from Penn Foster in January, 2009.  Seeing the transformation of the dogs is the best part of my job.  Nothing beats hearing an owner exclaim “He looks so great”.  I love grooming and the ability to groom with each canine’s different personality.  I could talk about dogs and grooming all day.  That is my passion.  Educating owners on brushing, bathing, nutrition or basic health is just another great part of my job.  I have a maltese-pit bull mix named Brown Sugar that I rescued from the pound.  Her best friend is Spacey, a black lab-pit mix.
